“The most functional way to regulate difficult emotions in love relationships is to share them.”
– Sue Johnson, Love Sense: The Revolutionary New Science of Romantic Relationships
In couples counseling, we ask every partner to commit to each other while working to improve the relationship. We also encourage couples to complete their outside work and assignments, both with each other and individually. Couples therapy works most effectively when every partner commits to working in treatment for a set amount of time rather than waiting until there’s a crisis.
That isn’t to say improving a relationship isn’t possible in moments of crisis or when only one partner chooses to engage in treatment. Instead, we believe in laying the foundation for a healthy and enduring partnership by beginning with a unified stance and measurable commitment.
Some focuses of couples counseling may include:
Mental Health Issues
Feeling Emotionally Distant
Sexual Addictions / Betrayal Trauma
